thirty
years ago at Christmas, I sang Tschesnokoff’s "Salvation is Created"
and "God is With
us" in Dr, Richard Klausli’s Plymouth Church choir, then across
from the Capitol, in
Lansing,
Michigan…and they still go round and round in my head, and in my
heart. I certainly cannot top them, but here is my
version, which I submit
with great respect to Tschesnokoff, and to the
Russian Orthodox Church.
This has not been sung,, so instruments are used for voices. MIDI String Ensemble II for SATTBB)

Tschesnokoff composed his as a
Communion Hymn for
Fridays,
the day when, according to the “weekly cycle” of the Orthodox calendar,
the Church commemorates the Lord’s crucifixion and death on the cross.
I wrote mine for Christmas, adding "by the
coming of our Savior Jesus Christ? and the four solo
chants with choral resoibse.

The text is a slight paraphrase of Psalm 74: 12:
KJV:
“For God is my King of old, working
salvation in the midst of the earth.”
RSV: "Yet God my King is from of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth."
Grail Psalter): "But from old has God been my king,
performing in the midst of the earth deeds of salvation!
NIV “But you, O God, are my king from of old;
you bring salvation upon the earth”
