This piece may be sung either
before or after a prayer to add a solemn feeling. There is some merit
in using incidental music to enhance a church service. Richard Klausli
used to have his choir sing a prelude in the lobby, a prayer response,
and two anthems...one new, and the other from last week or else one
sung by one of the three very strong Children's Choirs. If
you are old enough, you may recall that Henry Ford had two models...a
new Deluxe, and last years Deluxe that became this year's Standard.
This doesn't take much more rehearsal, and it sure polishes both choir
and choirmaster...Not to mention
pleasing the congregation.
One other thing, this piece is written to be sung A Cappella in eight
parts. If your choir can sing A Cappella, but have not been singing in
eight parts, this is an easy way to start. The ranges are not out of
sight, but you do need a well-balanced choir.
